If you're a fan of the hit BBC series 'Spooks' then these gadgets will no doubt tickle your fancy.

Indeed our fascination with spy gadgets goes back much further to the days of James Bond.

If theres a watch with an inbuilt video camera or a car which doubles as a submarine we are hooked!

It's no wonder then that 'Spy' items are attracting massive attention in the run up to Christmas from the British public.

In recent years private detectives have started to use more and more spy gadgets to assist them in their work.

At one time getting your hands on such high tech and downright clever equipment was almost impossible but nowadays the top spy gadgets of the past are easy to buy.

Here I've named my top three spy gadgets. Its important to prioritise what you want from such an item, it can be high tech and state of the art, but if it will be detected by others then it's useless.

TOP THREE SPY GADGETS

1. The hidden camera

Who can escape this baby!

SuperCircuits has beaten their own "Guiness World Record" with the PC208 Mini CMOS camera.

Measuring less than 1/3-inch square, it's smaller than a dime and requires only a 1/16-inch hole to look through. It features a 55 degree FOV, 1/4-inch color CMOS chip, 380 lines, 1.5 Lux resolution, and comes with plug-and-play cables.

Overall, the PC208 is an impressive camera retailing at £90.

2. The Pen scanner

I like this item because its practical and wouldn't arise suspicion. At £170, the Planon DocuPen RC800 is a new pen-sized scanner with 8MB of internal memory -- good for use on classified documents. There's also a built-in microSD card slot for memory expansion. Files are easily transferred via USB.

3. The voice changertelephone-voice-changer-pro.jpg

Wow, imagine all the uses for this! Voice changers come at different prices but for a good one you should spend at least £130. The one to the left has 6 levels of Pitch which gives you many options for effective voice disguise.

An ideal unit for use in the field, works well on pay phones, hotel phones, or any phone with a standard size handset.

The "speaker" fits easily and quickly over handset mouthpiece and is held in place by a Velcro strap. Utilizes the latest "pitch shifting" microprocessor as well as many "buffer" circuits to maintain a natural sounding voice for several octaves.
