A village sports club has been raided twice in six weeks by raiders who looted cash from the fruit machine.

In the first incident, on February 13, two large doors at Dickleburgh sports and social club were wrecked and the fruit machine smashed and the contents stolen.

Temporary barriers were put up but before club officials could replace the doors thieves struck again, crashing their way through the barriers and wrecking the fruit machine to clear it of money.

"Ironically talks had already been under way in the club to improve security but obviously not quick enough," said Brian Baker, the Mercury's village correspondent for Dickleburgh.

"So at an emergency meeting of the club committee it was agreed that there would be no replacement of any such machine until the security was in place. This will involve metal shutters to the windows/doors, a more sophisticated alarm system and direct line connection to the police."

The latest break-in was on Wednesday, March 26.
