These days gambling firms have to think outside the box and thats exactly what British bookmakers William Hill are doing after agreeing a deal with massive Spainish gaming machine operators Codere.

Now as a result of the joint venture William Hill has been awarded a gaming licence by the autonomous Madrid regional Authority.

The news followed an announcement by William Hill two weeks ago that authorities in Valencia had granted it a license to offer gaming services with the joint venture now able to operate under the Victoria brand name in Spain.

n a statement, Codere stated that both companies would now invest around $15 million each to open about 70

betting venues in the region before the end of the year.

William Hill's joint venture with Codere has been running since 2006 when the London-based giant stated that it was looking to spend around $13 million in each of the most populated regions of Spain.

At the time, William Hill said that its mission was to bring sportsbetting to Spain and it was looking to site betting kiosks in bingo halls and adult gaming centres along with possibly installing betting machines in bars.

William Hill was founded in 1934 and at the end of 2006 (when the last yearly figures were available) the company made a pre-tax profit of £292.2 million.
