There were many who doubted Arsenal's ability to mix it with the top sides in the Premiership this season believing the success of Arsene Wegner's young side was fleeting.

But their impressive performance against old rivals Liverpool on Sunday at Anfield clearly illustrated the Gunners can mix brain with braun.

A Cesc Fabregas goal ten minutes from time was fully deserved though the league leaders were made sweat by a resilient and at times excellent Liverpool side.

Liverpool Captain Steven Gerrard said afterwards that Fabregas could go on to become the best player in the world after a flawless display on Merseyside.

The result returned Arsenal to the top of the table while Liverpool kept their title dreams alive by remaining unbeaten in the Premiership this season.

Both sides are in Carling cup action tomorrow night when Liverpool welcome Robbie Fowler back to Anfield when they square up to Cardiff City while Sheffield United will hope to catch Arsenal on the hop up north.
