HORSE RACING
There was a fitting end to the flat season in Doncaster at the weekend when Irishman Jamie Spencer and Englishman Seb Sanders finished level in the jockeys championship.
Going into the last race Sanders led by 190 wins to Spencer's 189. Riding Inchnadamph 27 year old Spencer from Tipperary rolled up his sleeves and delivered the win to tie the contest for only the third time in the history of the sport.
In a bid to win the coveted crown both jockeys travelled up and down the country in the search of winners and by the end had endured more than 2,000 rides.
The last time the jockey's title was shared was back in 1923 when Steve Donoghue and Charlie Elliot couldn't be seperated. The freak result occured once prior to that in 1871 when George Fordham and Charlie Maidment finished all square.
For such a result to occur in modern day racing is remarkable however when you consider the amount of races the sportsmen and women compete in.
And what is the prize for winning this coveted crown in financial terms - absolutely nothing!
Jamie Spencer was aiming to win the jockey's championship for the second time in three seasons lifting the trophy in 2005.
Speaking afterwards to journalists he said "I'm choked. Its been physically and mentally draining over the last month. This was the best result that could have happened for racing as no one deserved to lose."

I wonder if it will bw as tight this year. I think Ryan Moore might have a bit to say about the outcome this coming season
spencer hasn't had the best of starts this season
