INTERNATIONAL RUGBY

WARREN CELEBRATING.jpg
WALES RUGBY.jpg

With the Six Nations Trophy and Triple Crown shield carefully tucked away Welsh coach Warren Gatland (left) would be excused for resting on his laurels but the Kiwi wants to get back into the limelight by leading the British and Irish Lions next year.

While the rest of Wales continues to celebrate the unexpected triumph the new boss says he's eager for more challenges .

He said " If theres a chance to get involved at some level (with the Lions) that would be a huge honour but I have to make sure I don't neglect Wales."

Should Gatland get to manage the Lions then he'll lead them into battle against South Africa next year. However he will get a chance to see the Springboks at first hand this Summer when Wales travel to face the World Champions for a two test tour in June before a return fixture at the Millenium Stadium in November.

INTERNATIONAL CRICKET

ENGLAND CRICKET WIN.jpg

It's been a while since English cricket supporters have had anything to cheer about but victory over New Zealand at the weekend would be greeted with both relief and celebration across the country.

On Sunday England defeated the Islanders by 126 runs to level the series and set up a mouth watering tie beginning on Friday in the port city of Napier.

Despite the victory though supporters are still frustrated by the side's lack of fire power when it matters.

However One day International Captain Paul Collingwood believes that its only a matter of time before England's batsmen hit top form.

He said " We've proved we can play in all conditions and it's up to one of us to go out there and get a big score."

"I think we're one big ton away from hopefully opening the floodgates. I would obviously like to go on and get that big score and I feel it's just around the corner."

He added that competition within the England squad is fierce saying " Nobody's position is safe in the side but it's always been the same and there are always going to be players waiting in the wings. Thats obviously healthy for the England cricket team."

The third and final test against New Zealand begins on Friday evening UK time.

When fans on the blue side of Liverpool look at the Premiership table this morning broad smiles will come to their faces.

David Moye's side sit in the fourth Champions League position three points ahead of bitter rivals and neighbours Liverpool.

Despite this though Liverpool have a game in hand and manager Rafa Benitez says he's still confident that it will be they who take that crucial fourth place finish.

This weekend Everton entertain Portsmouth at Goodison Park in whats sure to be a real test for the Toffeemen.

When Portsmouth and Everton met at Fratton Park in December it ended goaless and Steven Gerrard and company would be more than happy with a similar scoreline on Sunday.

The introduction of burly striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni (Pictured above with Steven Gerrard) from Middlesboro has re-invigorated Everton's attack force with the big Nigerian hitting 10 league goals already this season.

All eyes will be on Anfield at the end of the month when Liverpool entertain Moyes' men on the 30th in whats sure to be a game packed with drama with a hell of a lot at stake.
