INTERNATIONAL RUGBY

Speculation is mounting that current Munster boss Declan Kidney will succeed Eddie O' Sullivan as Irish International rugby coach.

Kidney was assistant to O'Sullivan from 2000 until 2004, including Rugby World Cup 2003, where he had responsibility for the backs.

However, it was decided after the competition Kidney was surplus to requirements.

Ironically, one of the findings from the recent Genesis report into Ireland's poor performance at Rugby World Cup 2007 was that Ireland should have a specialist backs coach and dedicated team manager.

SIX NATIONS RUGBY

LES BLUES.jpg

It's been a topsy turvy twelve months for french rugby but now fans of Les Bleus are hoping that a new spell of consistency is imminent.

New coach Marc Lievremont takes charge of the reigning Six Nations Champions for his first full competitive game on Sunday after replacing Bernard Laporte in the wake of last year's World Cup failure.

The 38 year old has named six uncapped players in his squad for the trip to Murrayfield.

Scotland then will be confident that they can catch the French, who are reknowned for being slow starters in the Six Nations, on the hop.

Coach Frank Hadden told reporters this week that he believes his side has a great chance of taking this year's competition. He said " It's our aim to go to Italy in the last match with us having a say in the outcome of the championship."
